Ten joyful tunes to fill your heart with inspiration at Easter

There’s something about the smells and bells of the Easter liturgy that leaves a unique impression
on us each year.

But what would the celebration of Christ’s resurrection be like without the music? Imagine your favorite TV show, superhero flick, or romantic comedy without a catchy theme song. Or picture the final scene of Mel Gibson’s visually poetic masterpiece, The Passion of the Christ, minus the dramatic music as Our Lord exits the tomb. It’s simply unthinkable!

Music is such an integral part of our culture, but more importantly, in the life of the church. It uplifts and serves as a spiritual compass for us as Catholics as together we face the Risen Lord with a hymn of praise. Throughout the great season of Easter, which is not just one day but 50 days (!!!) of jubilant celebration, we turn to music to fill us with good cheer as we proclaim the good news – “He is Risen, just as He said!” Alleluia, indeed!

“Christ is Risen” by Matt Maher (Tommy F. - Diocesan Support) - I saw Matt Maher perform this song live at the National Catholic Youth Conference on two separate occasions. The memories of 20k young people singing along about the good news fill me with hope.



"New Again" by Brad Paisley and Sara Evans (Anne P., Support Team) - This may not be your traditional Easter song, but it's a beautiful rendition of the Passion and sung in the point of view of Jesus and Mary. The beautiful lyrics, instruments and meaning behind the song give me chills and typically bring tears to my eyes.



"The Great Alleluia" sung at Easter liturgy (Natalie B., Development Team) - It is so joyful to hear the Alleluia at Mass again after missing it all of Lent! It really helps me focus on the joy and victory of the Resurrection.
